The name “TravelBlog” is a play on the name of our church family: Sojourn Community Church.

A sojourn is a trek, a quest. A journey from bondage to freedom, from darkness to light, made possible by the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the ancient children of Israel, like the writers of the Gospels, Acts and the epistles, we tell the story of God's work in our lives while we travel.

A Decade Of God’s Provision & Faithfulness: Sojourn After 10 Years

On Sunday, September 19 we’ll celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Sojourn Community Church.  Beginning with our “Best Cereal Party Ever” at the Midtown Campus before the 9am service, continuing through lunch celebrations at all of our campuses, a Qdoba bar before the 5pm service and a dance party after the 7pm, we’ll be rocking it out all day long.

The Bible is big on celebrating and commemorating — everything from the “standing stones” in the Old Testament to the Lord’s Supper in the New.  God doesn’t want His people to look back with “rose colored glasses” on the good ol’ days, but He does want us to remember that He has been faithful.  He wants us to look back at what He has done, and then look forward with renewed confidence that He who began a good work in us will see it through to completion.

Clearly He has done much with Sojourn and through Sojourn.  He has led and matured us, and He has greatly increased the size of this family.  He has also given us a vision for the future, and He continues to provide the means of carrying out that vision.

  • What are some of the ways He has led you during your time in this community?
  • What are the ways in which you have seen God at work in this community?

Reflect on these questions and talk about them: talk about them in this blog, or in your community group, your household, and the places you hang out.  Then bring some friends and join together on the 19th.  It’s not about patting ourselves on the back, it’s about rejoicing over God’s faithfulness, protection and provision.

About Daniel Montgomery Daniel Montgomery is the founder and Lead Pastor of Sojourn Community Church. He is responsible for teaching, leadership and vision within Sojourn.

  1. Kevin Rhea says:

Sojourn Community Church has been a place of refuge, healing, theological transformation, new friends, a new understanding of mission, and finally most important of all, my family’s church home for over 2 and a half years. I thank Jesus for Sojourn Community Church, Robert Cheong, Ty Thorne, Drew Petersen, Mike Cosper and his worship team, and especially for the many excellent teaching elders: Daniel Montgomery, Brian Howard, Mike Cosper, Bryce Butler, Rob Plummer, Chad Lewis, Robert Cheong, Mike Crowe, Ty Thorne, Dave Richards, James Santos, and.Gary Almon.

  2. Miguel says:

God has blessed me in so many ways over the past 10 years at Sojourn. First and foremost, I have been blessed with community. I have been blessed with a community of people that care so deeply about me, my family and our spiritual health. I have been blessed with friends who hold me accountable to the truths that God so richly gives us in His word. I’ve been blessed with friends that start the messy awkward conversations that need to take place so I can see the sin in my life when I’m blind to it or just simply in denial. I’ve been blessed with leaders who submit to the authority of the Scriptures and preach the Gospel week after week. I’ve been blessed with deep and rich worship and so much more.

    Happy 10th Anniversary Sojourn!!!

  3. Emmett Scholl says:

Becky and I have only been here since March, but we feel like our lives have been so radically transformed through the wonderful family that is Sojourn Community Church. In 2006, I was forced out of my first full-time ministry position and Becky and I walked away from God and His church. Two years ago, we began seeking after Him again. We tried other churches and they were well-intentioned, but we never felt like we belonged to a community. We never felt like we connected with people on a real, personal level. Then, we tried Sojourn and it felt like we were finally “at home” with a group of people who love God deeply and share that love with the people around them. Let us stay true to the core convictions that keep this church unique and special and hopefully ten years from now I can be one of those guys who says remember when we had our ten-year anniversary.
