Easter At Sojourn: Resurrection, The Old Testament and You
What does Pastor Daniel have in store for our B.C. sermon series when we land on Easter Sunday in three weeks? After all, B.C. stands for “Before Christ.” Are we gonna leave the Old Testament behind for a week?
If you’ve been following along all year, you know the answer to that by now — Christ is everywhere in the Old Testament, because as He Himself said, “These are the scriptures that testify about me.” (John 5:39) We understand Christ much better when we understand the history, Law and prophecy of the Old Testament, and we understand our own place in the story — including our culpability in the murder of Jesus and our hope in His resurrection.
So come to The 930 on Easter Sunday expecting to hear a message that is refreshing in its difference and its similarity to other Easter services in which you’ve taken part. And now … about that “taken part” business:
Let’s shoot straight — we all know that Easter is a time of fresh starts and new beginnings. In this culture it’s also a time of family, of friends and loved ones, of chocolate rabbits and colored eggs (that have possibly been out of the fridge for a bit too long by the time you find them). I don’t know what your plans are for chocolate and eggs, but there is no better time to invite people to Sojourn Gathered than Easter Sunday.
Let’s pack out The 930 as never before, for all four services. This isn’t about a numbers quota. It’s about taking an opportunity that comes along once a year to invite the people in our circle of influence to hear the gospel, on a day when they may be more likely to come than on most days.
Here are some other ways in which we need to step up and be the church — the body of Christ in action:
- Please consider attending an evening service to make room for morning visitors, unless you’re bringing morning visitors.
- Please serve during one gathering and attend another. We especially need more servants in the Connecting ministry email drichards@sojournchurch.com) and Sojourn Kids (email jkennedy@sojournchurch.com)
- Pray daily for the Easter service. Pray that hearts will receive the gospel. Pray for all of those who will serve, from the Lead Pastor to every person in the congregation who will take part through singing, praying, listening and welcoming everyone in the peace of Christ.
- Talk about the service. Talk in community group, talk on Facebook, talk on the phone, talk in your school or place of employment, talk at the grocery store and coffee shop.
- Be there.
