The name “TravelBlog” is a play on the name of our church family: Sojourn Community Church.

A sojourn is a trek, a quest. A journey from bondage to freedom, from darkness to light, made possible by the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the ancient children of Israel, like the writers of the Gospels, Acts and the epistles, we tell the story of God's work in our lives while we travel.

Fall Festival Food, Our New St. Matthews Campus Director, Pumpkin-Painting, and more

Here is the lunchtime scene from the 2009 Sojourn Fall Festival, held at our Germantown campus, The 930 Art Center.  Burgers, brats, hotdogs, potato salad, chips, cookies, hot cocoa, lemonade … who can resist?  And while standing in line, I got a short interview with Jamie and Kelsey Barnes.  Jamie is our new Campus Director at the St. Matthews campus, and Kelsey is instrumental in leading SojournKids there.  But neither they nor an Indiana Hoosier like myself could miss out on this festival, which has become a staple of Germantown community life in just three short years:

And here you’ll see one corner of the Festival, which includes our Pumpkin Painting booth, Germantown-Paristown Neighborhood Associate booth, EMS vehicle, balloon arches, food/music tent … and a few of Sojourn’s festival volunteers and deacons. Their reactions to being on film include:

Brooks Ritter: act like … well, act like Brooks Ritter. That’s really how he is all the time, folks.
Smitty Smith: Run away. One time he told me that his mom instructed him to curl up into a ball if ever attacked.
Lorie King: act like she’s not being filmed, while mentally preparing to scold film-maker later.

Yes, we’re one big, happy family:
