Getting Ready For Sunday: How To Prepare For Sojourn Gathered, Jan. 23, 2011
Last Sunday Pastor Daniel preached on the cross — Christ’s crucifixion for the sins of mankind. This was the second sermon in our Faithmapping series (the first was The Kingdom Of God).
This week our pastor will preach on grace, contrasting the amazing, free grace of God with our performance culture. Whether we realize it or not, society is addicted to performance. We’re constantly striving to win the acceptance of our friends, enemies, family, coworkers, bosses, teachers, neighbors, competitors and everyone else we come in contact with. We’re always looking for an edge, a shortcut or any kind of competitive advantage.
We do this with God too. In fact, this is the essence of every religion but true biblical Christianity. Come prepared to learn about the difference this Sunday.
This is also a Baptism Sunday — a favorite time of celebration within the Sojourn Community. Several people from our campuses and service times have chosen to identify with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection through Believer’s Baptism, so let’s all cheer them on.
Songs we’ll sing include:
- Refuge, from our Over The Grave album. Hear the full track from the track list at our Over The Grave store.
- Amazing Grace. That’s right – the gospel hymn classic. We’re singing it. Be ready to belt it out.
- Death In His Grave. Hear a sample by John Mark McMillan at Amazon.com
See you Sunday.
