The name “TravelBlog” is a play on the name of our church family: Sojourn Community Church.

A sojourn is a trek, a quest. A journey from bondage to freedom, from darkness to light, made possible by the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the ancient children of Israel, like the writers of the Gospels, Acts and the epistles, we tell the story of God's work in our lives while we travel.

Getting Ready For Sunday: How To Prepare For Sojourn Gathered, Sunday, October 3

This Sunday our pastor will take us into the book of Hebrews, as we enter the home stretch of our two-year study of every book in the Bible.  And, you’ll get a free devotional study guide that will follow along with this three-week long sermon series.

We’ll focus on the first four chapters of Hebrews this week, and learn how we can rest in the gospel truth that Christ is our anchor.  We’ll also ask ourselves “In which areas of my life is Christ not the anchor?  In which areas am I adrift?  Where have I run aground?”

Come prepared to be an active listener, and an active participant in the entire liturgy — the order of the service.  “Liturgy” literally means “the work of the people.”  Scripture reading, prayers, songs, communion, offering, the passing of the peace … these are things that we participate in fully, rather than just acting as spectators at a show.

I don’t have an update on the songs we’ll be singing this week.  I’m actually on my honeymoon now, and wrote this post a week in advance.  But whatever we sing, it will be good and truthful.  See you Sunday!
