Getting Ready For Sunday: How To Prepare For The July 18, 2010 Sojourn Gathered

Last week we celebrated seven baptisms at our East and Midtown campuses (pictured: East Campus service photos, by Troy Harvey). Then Pastor Brian took us into the first part of a two-week study of Ephesians. If you missed it, you can hear the sermon on the iTunes “Sojourn Church” podcast or listen in the Resource section here at sojournchurch.com. You can also download the PDF of this month’s free Sojourn devotional, which focuses on Ephesians and Philippians (or pick up a printed copy this Sunday at Sojourn Gathered).

On Sunday we’ll finish Ephesians. As Pastor Brian said last week, one easy way to think about Ephesians is that the first half focuses on what Christ has done for us, in bringing us from death to life. The second half focuses on what we should do for Christ, in gratitude for what He’s done for us. This week’s sermon will focus on this second half, so pray this weekend for the Holy Spirit to illuminate our hearts and minds, and prepare us to hear and receive the Word of God together.

Songs we’ll sing this Sunday include:

See you Sunday! Until then, meditate on this reading, which we’ll say together following the Lord’s Supper:
Live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as we were called to one glorious hope for the future— one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. – Eph 4:1-6
