The name “TravelBlog” is a play on the name of our church family: Sojourn Community Church.

A sojourn is a trek, a quest. A journey from bondage to freedom, from darkness to light, made possible by the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the ancient children of Israel, like the writers of the Gospels, Acts and the epistles, we tell the story of God's work in our lives while we travel.

Living Leviticus: Day 1, by Emily Flanigan

Bring it, LAW!

Bring it, LAW!

Day 1 of Living Levitically:

When I first heard about this challenge I thought to myself, “Have fun with that you 7 crazy people” but I ended up getting sucked into the craziness. I have always had a really hard time understanding or being excited about Leviticus. I have been guilty many times of skimming or skipping chapters just to make it through to the other Old Testament books. But lately I recalled this verse in 2 Timothy 3:16-17:

All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Every part of God’s Word is indeed, profitable for us to understand! Not only do I want to understand Leviticus because it is God’s word, but because it contains the law that Jesus came to fulfill and replace with His sacrifice.

As far as what I have decided to practice:

Food: Basically I’m going to try and eat Kosher as much as I can. But I am going to cut out ground beef I think because it usually contains a lot of fat and I think fatty substances were not allowed to be eaten.

Clothing: I’m going to try and wear clothes that are all made of the same material…like all cotton…
Also, I’m going to try and hunt down some linen clothing to only wear when I enter the 930.
I also think I’m going to go barefooted when I enter the 930! Yikes….

And even though the men were not required to do this, the women were, and that is to wear a head covering when I enter the 930.

And then lastly, I think I’m going to make a list every night before I go to bed of all the sins I can think of that I have done that day and then burn them. I’m looking forward to doing that the least. Yet, even though it will be overwhelming and probably frustrating, it will also be a humbling time to remember grace and forgiveness.
