The name “TravelBlog” is a play on the name of our church family: Sojourn Community Church.

A sojourn is a trek, a quest. A journey from bondage to freedom, from darkness to light, made possible by the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the ancient children of Israel, like the writers of the Gospels, Acts and the epistles, we tell the story of God's work in our lives while we travel.

Midtown – Sojourn Relaunches the Germantown Campus

Our vision is to see the gospel transform everything – ourselves as individuals, our church, our city and the world. By 2020, we desire to see that vision expressed in our church as a body of 7,500 people, gathering in 5 locations, and planting churches all over the world that draw many more un-churched people into a relationship with God.

You might have noticed some subtle changes recently in how we have referred to our campus in Germantown that meets in The 930 Arts Center. We have been a multi-site church since August but some things take time to change. As we make preparations to create more room for un-churched people and deepen our commitment to the city, Sojourn is Relaunching the Germantown campus – it will now be referred to as the Midtown campus.

This is not merely a name change, but part of our commitment to take the gospel to the entire city. Though the campus remains in the Germantown/Shelby Park neighborhoods, our desire is to see all of Louisville transformed by the power of the gospel. It is also a recognition that the people that come Sunday’s to the Midtown Campus come from multiple communities throughout Louisville. Our ministries impact any number of urban communities. Our group life, service, mercy and mission efforts are not limited to a few neighborhoods, but extend into all areas of the city as we live ordinary lives with gospel intentionality.

We also recognize that as we launched our campaign announcing the purchase of St. Vincent’s in Shelby Park that we are stepping into an entirely different community and that by sheer location our campus no longer is physically just in the Germantown community.

Our hope is that we unleash, equip and send out all Sojourner’s so that we will live and forever leave God’s mark on the city of Louisville. We will do this through Word (preaching, teaching, evangelism), Deed (mercy, justice, service), Work (equipping Christians to work as Christians in their vocation) and Community (family, reconciliation, and partnerships).

With these goals in mind, the elders asked our online community of Sojourners to suggest new names for the campus. We received many good ideas before settling on “Midtown,” suggested by member Katina French. We’re happy to have thoughtful and creative members like Kat, and the many others who shared their ideas in the online discussion board.

It may be a simple name change, but we hopefully communicate a desire to be a campus in this community for all of the neighborhoods and people that might find a family and opportunities to serve here at 930 Mary St.

Also, we will be changing our 1115 service time to 11a starting March 7th. Make sure to adjust your schedules!

Makes perfectly good sense! And rolls off the tongue easier than “Sojourn in Germantown.”
