PHOTO BLOG: Baptism Sunday, And The Vision God Has Given To Sojourn

Yesterday I announced that Sojourn has received a $2 million dollar vision campaign pledge, putting us within $900 thousand of achieving our $6 million pledge goal (if you haven’t been a part of this community for awhile, you can read all about the goals of our vision campaign anytime at vision.sojournchurch.com).

Then last night in my weekly email to Sojourn members, I said that this is an opportunity for all of us to “catch our second wind” — to realize the vision is within reach and that we can all put our shoulders to the plow and do this! (If you’re a member who is not on the email list, contact the church office to make sure we have your current email address on file).

Some people might be tempted to ask “What are the tangible results?” To that, I’d say “Just look around you! Look at the wonderful building God provided in New Albany. Remember everyone ministered to at the Medical Clinic. Look at the growth of the J-Town campus.

Remember the SojournMusic release party — all that theologically rich new music for the universal church, birthed in this very community. Look at the fact that we’ve added a 2nd service at the East campus, and that the St. Matthews Business Association named us “Community Partner Of The Year.” Look at the church planting conference going on right now at our Midtown Campus, hosted by our church planting network.

But most of all, look simply at the constant stream of baptisms, like those that took place yesterday at each of our campuses. We’re not about buildings for the sake of buildings, programs for the sake of programs, or events for the sake of events. We’re all about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in Louisville, Southern Indiana and beyond.

These photographs show the miraculous gift of second-birth, through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Sojourners, let’s never lose sight of our mission.

The reason for our giving, our vision commitments, our prayer, our preaching and our teaching tools, our scripture memorization, our community outreach, and everything we do is that Christ has redeemed us and empowered us to work in his kingdom, so that others may hear, see and know his gift of salvation and eternal life.

Photos here by David Kidd, Brad Weir, Chuck Heeke, Tom Branch and Troy Harvey. I thank them for their humble service.

Remember you can read baptism testimonies and stories of salvation every single week here in TravelBlog.

Let them encourage and strengthen you, as they do me.
Heb 11:40
God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
