The name “TravelBlog” is a play on the name of our church family: Sojourn Community Church.

A sojourn is a trek, a quest. A journey from bondage to freedom, from darkness to light, made possible by the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the ancient children of Israel, like the writers of the Gospels, Acts and the epistles, we tell the story of God's work in our lives while we travel.

Salvation Stories: Sojourn’s Emily Little

We will celebrate another Baptism Sunday on March 4. If you would like to take this important step in identifying with Christ and His bride, email baptism@sojournchurch.com by February 28.

And now, a Sojourner tell this story of salvation, which led to a recent baptism at Sojourn Gathered:
I grew up going to a Christian school and to church on Sundays with my mom. I accepted Christ in middle school and had a close relationship with Him. As I got older, I began to put more emphasis on doing the right things and being what I thought a Christian should be instead of focusing on Christ’s amazing sacrifice on the cross.
At the same time, there was a person in my life who was verbally abusive to me, who often criticized me and called me degrading names. This led me to believe that I could never measure up to anyone’s standards, let alone God’s. After I graduated from high school, I felt worthless and gave up on trying to be a good Christian. I turned my back on God and began to party every weekend. I also dated guys who reinforced my negative self-worth.
This all changed a year and a half ago when my friends started attending Sojourn. Through the sermons, I started to realize that it is not possible to be good enough and that that is what makes Christ’s sacrifice so powerful. I took my focus off of myself and placed it on Christ. Ephesians 2:4-5 says,

“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by grace you have been saved.”

I praise the Lord for redeeming me of my negative self-worth and I now have found confidence in His promises – that His grace is sufficient and I don’t have to prove anything to Him for my salvation.
