The name “TravelBlog” is a play on the name of our church family: Sojourn Community Church.

A sojourn is a trek, a quest. A journey from bondage to freedom, from darkness to light, made possible by the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the ancient children of Israel, like the writers of the Gospels, Acts and the epistles, we tell the story of God's work in our lives while we travel.

Salvation Stories: Sojourn’s Michael Lucas

We will celebrate another Baptism Sunday on March 4. If you would like to take this important step in identifying with Christ and His bride, email baptism@sojournchurch.com by February 28.

And now, a Sojourner tell this story of salvation, which led to a recent baptism at Sojourn Gathered:
Before I came to know Christ, I drank a lot and was full of anger towards myself and those I lived with. I was searching for myself and never felt truly a part of anything, including my family. I was raised as a Catholic but I lost my faith by the time I was 15 and became an Agnostic. I believed there was a God, but I didn’t believe that Man had it right when it came to interacting with God.

I lost my job in 2008, and was subsequently employed by a company which brought me into contact with three students from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: Ben, Bob and Noah. They began talking to me about Jesus, and at first I didn’t want to hear it. Eventually, the Holy Spirit began working in me and softening my heart. After a few months, I asked Bob to recommend a book that laid out what exactly the gospel was about. He gave me copies of Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis and Unshakable Foundations by Norman Geisler. Within these books I found that God was a loving God and not an angry taskmaster as I had been taught as a child. The Holy Spirit used what I found in these books to spur me to studying the Bible. Eventually, the Holy Spirit was able to lead me to accept salvation through Christ.

I see the world in a new light now. I recognize the pervasive effects of sin in my life and my need for salvation. I have faith that God laid a plan for my salvation from the beginning and I have accepted that salvation. I know that those I live with are in need of God’s love and I’m trying to bring them to accept this. I realize that God was working in my life back in 2008 to bring me to a place where I could hear the Gospel. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Bob, Ben and Noah for their perseverance. And, I’ve finally found a place where I feel I belong which has enabled me to come to peace with myself and those around me, and quit drinking.

The beginning verse of I Sought the Lord, and Afterward I Knew stirs my soul and sums up my journey:

I sought the Lord, and afterward I knew
He moved my soul to seek Him, seeking me;
It was not I that found, O Saviour true;
No I was found of thee.
