Sojourn In Today’s Courier-Journal
An article in the Louisville Courier-Journal mentions Sojourn and our Pastor Daniel Montgomery. The article by Peter Smith, is entitled “Young Pastors Question Role in Baptist Convention.” The article focuses on the just-completed 2009 Annual Meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention and the special B21 panel, hosted here at The 930 and organized jointly by Baptist 21 and Sojourn. Daniel is quoted:
Sojourn pastor Daniel Montgomery summarized the quandary many younger Southern Baptists feel about the convention. They share its conservative beliefs but question the value of spending so much energy at meetings known for internal battles they feel waste time and alienate the public they’re trying to reach.
“Sometimes I’m talking guys into getting more involved in the convention,” he said. But many “don’t even want to fight about it because it will do damage to the gospel.”
The article goes on to say that Sojourn “stands in some ways as an example of how Southern Baptists see their future – not anchored to traditional Southern culture, dark suits or old-time gospel music but rather an effort to preach traditional doctrine in culturally innovative ways, such as through the arts and community service.”
